The first Art of Leith Forum was held in February 2009, inspired by the National Galleries of Scotland collaboration on the Parallel Lives 2 project which was exhibited at The Out of the Blue Drill Hall. out of the blue and Leith Festival invited local cultural organisations and people interested in taking advantage of creative opportunities in Leith to get together to explore individual and collaborative possibilities. Organisations participating included out of the blue, Leith Festival, Leith FM, The Puppet Lab, Leith Theatre Trust, Active Inquiry, Strangetown Youth Theatre, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, and The National Galleries of Scotland.

 The forum have since focused on information exchanges between the individuals and organizations involved. Core principals include a belief in the great value that opportunities for a range of creative activity can have for individuals and communities. The Art of Leith group hopes to continue to expand, promoting, supporting and facilitating more and more of the creative work which goes on in Leith.
